PRESS RELEASE
M O Z A R T   P R A G U E   2 0 0 6
PRESENTS

More than 150 concerts, opera performances, exhibitions, movies and music festivals are part of the program of MOZART PRAGUE 2006. Its organizers, 16 eminent cultural institutions, introduced their plans on Wednesday, March 30th, 2005, at a press conference in the Theatre of Estates. The projects are prepared in cooperation with the City of Prague and under the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. Mr. Václav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic and Mr. Pavel Bém, Mayor of Prague, have accepted the patronage over this project.

In 2006 the entire world will commemorate the 250th anniversary of W.A. Mozart’s birth. His destiny, artistic inspiration and unique creations are essentially linked with Prague. It was in Prague’s Theatre of Estates, then Nostitz Theatre, in which the world premieres of his Prague Symphony, the famous opera Don Giovanni and later also La Clemenza di Tito took place. In Prague he was a guest of the Dušek´s in the villa Bertramka. Another large number of other important places in Prague are closely linked to W.A.Mozart. The exceptional position of this city in the life of W.A.Mozart proves also his statement: “My orchestra is in Prague.”

The coordinating role in the preparation and realization of this project is guaranteed by the experienced Jiří Hubač, director of the company BVA International s.r.o. He also organized “The tribute to Antonín Dvořák”, which only recently won the accolade of, “Musical event of the year 2004” awarded by the leading Czech Music Magazine, Harmony.

The project MOZART PRAGUE 2006 will be part of the worldwide tribute to this important anniversary. Similar events prepared in other Mozart metropolis like Vienna and Salzburg were introduced at the press conference by Dr. Franz Patay, executive director of the project “Wiener Mozartjahr”.
